Significant others

Peter Roberts: Many of my friends and colleagues expect me to discuss the considerable merits of Bill Shankly as my ‘significant other’, and I cannot deny that I was tempted to present Bill’s case. However, much though I admire him and follow his advice on matters both football and temporal, another significant Scot is the subject of attention here.

Will regeneration see off ‘reality’ TV?

Shaun Harley: In a past life, I was responsible for the reputation of the UK arm of a big oil company (I know, I’ll burn, burn, burn). Part of the job involved fielding regular calls from filmmakers wanting to stage a scene on one of the company’s forecourts. As this dramatic centrepiece usually involved an explosion, late night gang battle or vicious armed robbery, I always declined.
